One of my most popular articles is one I wrote last year : What’s Your Social Media Marketing Strategy? The fact that it still gets so much traffic is a testament to how important social media marketing strategy is to businesses who want to stay current and make the most of social media marketing opportunities without being buried by them. If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time you’ll know that when it comes to social media marketing or social media networking I focus on strategy and goals first rather than social media tools (with the possible exception of blogging).
I’ve been doing some experimentation with one of my favourite productivity tools, Mind Manager and decided to create a high-level mind map of my blog post… and share it with you on my blog. Feel free to have a look by clicking the link below. You can copy it for your own use if you find it helpful. I’d also be interested to know if the Mind Map is helpful so comments would be welcome. The Mind Map should open in its own player… click the (+) to expand a topic, click again to collapse it.
I’ve used Mind Mapping for years – starting in Uni where I used my hand-drawn mind maps to record and recall entire lectures and essays. As a strategist, and copywriter I find mind mapping invaluable. I begin my brainstorming, marketing plans, business plans, project plans, strategic recommendations and more with a mind map. Computerized versions make a difference and though I use them more now, in my opinion nothing beats the power of a hand-produced mind map. Whichever version, they are a great productivity tool for busy business people.
As an aside, while I do like Mind Manager, and have used Mind Jet for years this isn’t a plug for them. I am still particularly annoyed at the fact that they’ve recently upped their yearly subscription for the web based sharing component by a whopping 100% just for the being able to share said maps from their online application and yet to share our maps we have to display their “free trial” in the Mind Jet player.
Enjoy the map.

Social Media Marketing requires you, as a marketer to play by new rules. Product, pricing, promotion and placement are important, however interaction, influence, people and change have become increasingly more important. Social Media Marketing wouldn’t be possible without the fundamental changes brought by the Web. The (Social) Web has changed the rules for marketing – Social Media tools magnify that change, and open up new opportunities for marketing and reaching customers – for those marketers who are savvy enough to take them.
The most important aspect of Social Media Marketing (and one with which many marketers still struggle) is that the balance of power has shifted to customers. Passive one-way communications that invite no interaction are old style marketing. Companies need to go beyond this to where their customers are.
Reach Buyers with News Releases
Using News Releases (rather than Press Releases) your audience is no longer limited to a small group of journalists, and media outlets. Your audience is now the world… millions of people with an Internet connection, RSS, Google readers and social media bookmarks to mention a few. Among these millions are potential customers looking for companies to help them solve pressing problems.
Write a news release and it’s easier than ever for you to reach – and engage them.
With a simple news release you can: Continue reading »
