Every year I create art to commemorate Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day as it is also known. This year I created this painting of abstract poppies in honour of those who fell fighting in the World Wars. We know that 11.11 11 November 2018 marks 100 years since the end of World War 1. I have so loved seeing all the beautiful and moving poppy displays for the fallen, including all the animals that were killed. It really bears remembering every day how much we have to to be grateful for and how many soldiers gave up their own lives to ensure we have our freedoms, freedoms we take for granted.
With the world often feeling as if it’s on a tightrope, with some unspeakable things still happening that leave us lost for words (and not in a good way) I hope that in remembering those who fought for our freedoms we are also reminded of the lessons of the horrors of war, most of which we cannot even imagine so that history does not repeat itself.
